Sea moss — known scientifically as Chondrus crispus — is a species of red algae that grows along the rocky coastlines of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s been celebrated for centuries as a natural source of essential minerals and plant-based nutrition.
At Desert Moss, our wildcrafted sea moss is ethically sourced from the clear waters of Zanzibar, Tanzania — a tropical variety known as Eucheuma cottonii (also called Kappaphycus alvarezii). While different from the colder-water Irish moss Dr. Sebi often referenced, it’s from the same red-algae family and offers a nearly identical mineral profile.
Dr. Sebi taught that Chondrus crispus contains 92 of the 102 minerals the human body needs to function — including iodine, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron. Our sea moss captures that same nutrient-dense energy from the ocean, crafted fresh here in the desert of Arizona.
